5454:2000 , Business Records Management
BS 5454:2000 makes
recommendations for the storage and exhibition of archival
documents, including library materials.
This standard makes recommendations that should apply to the
long term, permanent storage of archival or archive documents.
The temporary storage of archive documents in controlled access
and their display in public places is also covered. The BS
5454:2000 standards suggestions apply to new buildings, whether
purpose-built or adapted, and to existing buildings.
The suggestions in BS 5454:2000 mainly concern traditional
materials, i.e. paper documents, although some guidance on more
modern media is given in clause 11. This guidance is intended
for the storage of modern media in general-purpose repositories,
and further specialist advice may also be required.

BS 5454:2000 is for use by archive managers, document storage
companies, librarians, conservators, museum curators,
archivists, architects, designers, contractors, engineers and
others concerned with the construction, planning,
maintenance, equipment and working of such storage buildings.
